P.L.A.N.T. Discipleship

Our goal in Discipleship at Sowebo is to develop fully formed followers of Christ within the vision and values of Sowebo Community Church. We want each of us to become people who embody the core aspects of our vision, commitments, and values—living out their faith in a way that reflects Jesus, serves others, and multiplies faith in their community.

Having a clear vision of qualities for discipleship is essential because it provides a shared vision for spiritual growth, development, and community impact. It helps individuals evaluate their faith journey, guiding them in becoming more like Christ in tangible ways. It also shapes church culture, ensuring that discipleship is intentional and aligned with Sowebo Community Church’s mission of crossing cultural boundaries to build the Beloved Community. By defining these qualities, we create a practical framework for personal transformation, accountability, and the multiplication of faithful, engaged believers.

PERSON OF PRAYER

(Devoted & Interceding)

A Person of Prayer dedicates time to prayer, recognizing it as an ongoing act of worship. They pray for others and themselves, seeking God’s presence in all things. Their life is a reflection of worship, as everything they do is for God's glory. Prayer is central to their walk with God.

(Humble & Receptive)

A Learner is humble and always open to learning. They listen attentively to God’s Word and others, not rushing to speak but rather seeking to understand. They strive to grow, develop, and invest in the gifts God has given them. They value wisdom and are willing to be taught by Scripture, mentors, and fellow believers from a variety of backgrounds.

LEARNER

AMBASSADOR

(Reconciling , Peacemaking, Bridge-Building, )

An Ambassador actively pursues reconciliation with others, valuing peace in relationships over conflict. They are honest and genuine in their interactions, striving to bring healing to broken relationships and develop unity among diverse groups, particularly across cultural boundaries.

(Present & Compassionate)

A Neighbor is someone who actively builds relationships, listens to the community, and works with neighbors to strengthen the place where they live, worship, and serve. Rather than seeing themselves as saviors, they seek mutual flourishing by recognizing and amplifying the gifts already present in the community.

Neighbor

Teacher/Trainer

(Equipping & Empowering)

A Teacher/Trainer not only learns but also teaches and empowers others to follow Christ. They equip others to grow in their faith, and they are actively involved in spreading the Gospel and teaching others to observe the commands of Christ. They share their knowledge and experience to build up the body of Christ and multiply disciples. They point both the unchurched and the dechurched to the wonders of Christ.
